A

Usee to determine the direction in wich a ship was sailing by determining here the north was.
A magnet in the compass always moved the needle towards norht.

A

Larger and sturdier than pther ships at the time
Carval built hulls were much lighter
Rudders made ships easier to sail
They could sail in any wind

What was life like on a carval ship?

A

The captian and officers would have their own cabin but the crew would usually sleep in hammocks below the decks or in the open air
Sailing a carval ship was constent hard work and the crew were treated harshly
Wich led to tension between the officers and crew
Mutiny was not unusual

What was food like on a caravel ship

A

Food didnt last long as their was no refrigeration wich ment food was heavily saltedand dry to peserve it. When the crew ran out of meats and vegetables they ate flat hard bread made from salt,flour and water, called ships biscuit. Sickness was common. Bacterial infections like typhoid fever were caused by the lack of fresh water on board. Many of th crew got scurvy from the lack of vit C.
