What is communism?
A system where all property is owned by the community and each person tributes and receives according to their needs.
What is capitalism?
A political system in which a country’s trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit.
What did the USSR believe in?
The USSR believed that communism was a better way to go than capitalism
What did the USA believe in?
The USA believed that capitalism was a better ideology than communism.
Why did the USA and USSR work together in the Second World War?
They worked together to atop Hitler because they both believed he was dangerous and was not a good man.
What changed after the War?
The two sides remembered why they were different and they separated due to it.
What was the Yalta conference?
It was a meeting after World War II with the heads of government from, USA, Britain and the USSR.
What was the Yalta conferences purpose?
To discuss the postwar reorganisation of Germany and Europe.
What were Stalins aims in the conference?
His aim was to gain additional territory in Eastern Europe
What did Roosevelt want from the Yalta conference?
Roosevelt wanted Germany’s unconditional surrender and to plan for a post-war world.
What did Churchill want from the Yalta Conference?
Churchill wanted to maintain Britain’s empire and prestige, he wanted to decide what they should do with Germany and what they wanted to do after the war.
What was Germany split in half?
It was split into a East and West because they didn’t want another war to happen again.
Due to Germany splitting into two what did this cause?
People were moving over to the East from the West because they may have preferred Capitalism over Communism.
What was the Potsdam Conference?
It was another conference held between Britain, the USA and the USSR to decide what to do with Germany
