Describe a daily check on an SCBA?
- Check using regulator and mask
- Turn on bottle
- Listen for low air alarm
- Check for leaks
- Check HUD and compare to bottle gauge and shoulder gauge
- Ensure bottle is full
- Make sure straps are loose
- Check to make sure its clean and not damaged
- Check all hoses
- Check pack alert is operating for motion and manual activation
- Check battery level for pack alert
At what rate do you fill an SCBA bottle?
300 PSI/minute
What is the procedure when you discover a piece of broken equipment during truck checks?
- Inform captain
- Remove piece of equipment
- Complete an out of service tag
- Replace, if possible, with spare
- Mark on white board on apparatus floor what was removed, from where, and when
When should the engine retarder be used on a fire apparatus? When should it not be used?
- Should be used at all times, unless it is raining or snowing
- Driver is to advise captain that he/she is shutting off the retarder
