aeronautical charts Flashcards
what if a map has a scale of 1:250,000?
then 1 unit on the map is equal to 250,000 units on the earths surface.
what are the two main map scales used?
1:1,000,000 and 1:250,000
how is measuring distances on charts done?
use the same scale on the rules as the chart is you can read off the distance.
be as accurate as possible and place the zero mark of the rule on exactly the middle of your starting point.
how is measuring angles on charts done?
using a protractor. always start from North(000degrees) and use degrees true.
does a 1:1,000,000 scale show visual reporting points? and why?
no, as its inteded for planning purposes only not navigation.
what is relief?
a term referring to the difference in height from surrounding terrain.
what is a spot height?
numbers on maps which represent heights above sea level.
what are Maximum elevation figures and what do they look like?

60 minutes of arc
what does 1’ equal?
60 seconds of arc
what does 1 degree of latitude equal?
60 nm
what does 1 minute of latitude equal?
1nm
what does strength on operational data mean?
how much weight the runway surface can withstand
