aerobic respiration Flashcards
what is respiration
glucose from the food you eat reacting with oxygen to transfer energy to your cells
what is the word equation for aerobic respiration
glucose+oxygen->carbon dioxide+water (+energy
(reactants) (products)
where does respiration occur
in the mitochondria in your cells
how does glucose get to your cells
during digestion, carbohydrates break down into glucose molecules. they then get absorbed into the blood stream by the villi in the small intestine. it the diffuses into your cells for respiration
how does oxygen get to your cells
when breathing in, oxygen fill the alveoli in your lungs and the oxygen diffuses into your bloodstream. oxygen joins to your red blood cells and the oxygen diffuses into the cells that need it
how does carbon dioxide leave the body
when you exhale. it diffuses out of your cells and into the blood. the blood transports the carbon dioxide into your lungs where it diffuses into the alveoli and is exhaled
