aerobic and anaerobic training Flashcards
1
Q
what is aerobic training?
A
- uses oxygen to metabolise energy sources to create movement
- performed at low-moderate intensity (60-85% MHR) at a steady space
- able to continue for an extended period of time
- focuses on developing the cardiorespiratory endurance
e.g. walking, swimming, cycling
2
Q
what is anaerobic training?
A
- doesn’t use oxygen as it’s enrgy source
- involves workloads of intense and short in duration
- relies on stored energy to be metabolised in place of oxygen
- a bi-product of anaerobic activity is lactic acid which is built up in the muscles, this slow/impairs muscles contractions, causing the pain you feel after muscle fatigue
- perform at high intensity (85-100% MHR)
e.g. long jump, spriniting, shot pit

Q
what does the FITT principle stand for?
A
F - Frequencu
I - Intensity
T - Time
T- Type
