Q

What can organisms use the energy released from respiration for?

A
  • build larger molecules from small ones
  • enable muscle contraction in animals
  • maintain a constant body temperature (mammals and birds)
  • (in plants) to build sugars, nitrates and other nutrients into amino acids and then into proteins

Q

How can we test to see if aerobic respiration is taking place?

A
  • limewater is used to detect carbon dioxide {product of aerobic respiration}. The limewater turns cloudy quicker the faster the co2 is produced.
  • also possible to detect a rise in temperature
