Platform apparatus loads wet/dry

what are the 4 types of valves for a hydraulic system

Manual controls
used when the system will not allow for normal operation
Overrides
used when the electrical system malfunctions or the interlock will not allow operation
Emergency Power Unit (EPU)
- electric motor that is connected to the hydraulic system
- will operate the system if the main pump/motor fails.
What are 3 types of stabilizers
1) A-frame
2) Box
3) Straight jacks
The proper distance between the objective and the aerial apparatus is one that
1) Affords maximum stability
2) The best climbing angle
3) Allows for adequate extension
Ladders are weakest at
- long extensions and low angles
All AFR ladders are designed to operate in the
cantilever position (do not rest tip of ladder on anything)
DO NOT
extend or retract ladder while a FF is at the tip

Platform stabilizers will only correct
- 5 degrees of slope and grade
Override
EPU
- you as an operator have to override the system over the manufacturers recommendations
- when something fails you have to bed or have an issue (small motors/be careful of run times)
actuators
- devices that convert fluid power developed in the system back into mechanical force.
interlocks
- keeps the ladder from operating if the stabilizers are NOT secure or aerial device is not bedded correctly
- can be overridden
limiting switches
- when ladder is reaching its full extended reach and retracting, ladder may slow itself down to prevent slamming the hydraulic systems.
Regen Process
- hold ENGINE TEST switch for 6 sec
- exhaust 10 ft away temps can reach 1,000 degrees
- can take 40 to 120 minutes
- to cancel engage foot break and turn on engine test switch
L-17 set up
- lower front stabilizers first but do not fully extend, then move to the back and lower rear stabilizers simultaneously approx 6 inches.
- Do not forget to check slope and grade to see if you are in the green.
Always check where nozzle is
- Do not forget where your nozzle is, depending the situation for rescue or attack.
- Attack the nozzle will move to the tip for rescue nozzle will stay below tip. Always leave in rescue.
Autofails
- fails to apply parking brake
- fails to apply front wheel lock
- fails to place wheel chocks at front tire
- front tires not in contact w/ground
- safety pins not in place
- failure to demonstrate how to operate the pinable waterway
- aerial ladder strikes an object
- placement of aerial ladder incorrect for the given scenario
- personnel climbing aerial ladder w/o ladder belt
- fails to remover personnel from the aerial ladder before bedding the device
when bedding ladder make sure to check
that the drain is open
WARNING
-any time that an override or manual controls are used ALL safety systems are over ridden.
Override Controls require
- two operators
one to hold the override switch
one to operate controls - these controls should only be used to get you back from a dangerous situation.
Aerial rotation overrides
- if a stabilizer becomes unstable or a sensor has failed and you are unable to move the aerial ladder, activate the aerial rotation override and bed the ladder by moving it
Seagrave 100’ EPU switch locations
L-4 & l-15
- on switch is located in the front panel under the aerial control consoles on the pedestal
- the other two are are located on in each of the outrigger control boxes
Seagrave short jack procedure will limit range by how much?
the aerial limits the rage of rotation to 15 degrees from center line of the truck on short jack side. Must be overridden if needed to go beyond 15 degrees.
