Ground adjustable trim tabs:
Aileron:
Tab down - wing down
Ground adjustable trim tabs
Rudder:
tab left - tail left
tab right - tail right
Ground adjustable trim tabs
Rudder - a simple way to remember which way to bend the tab is to …..
simply bend the tab in the direction you want the ball to move
5 points about stabilators …..
- one piece symmetrical aerofoil
- Requires less deflection for the same result
- Achieves trim wil less parasite drag (half as much)
- +300 to -200
- Improves control in transconic speeds from 0.8 to 1.2
If your controls are feeling a little too light what type of tab would you be using …..
an anti-balance or leading balance tab
If your controls are feeling too heavy what type of balancing tab will you need to use …..
A balance tab or a lagging balance tab
How do you adjust an anti-balance tab …..
- Elevator up - tab up
- Elevator down - tab down
How do you adjust a balance tab …..
- Elevator up - tab down
- Elevator down - tab up
Describe how a Spring Tab for a rudder works ….
There is a spring with a pre-set limt applied to the tab. Once that limit is exceeded the bellcrank breaks and the spring assists in the deflection of the rudder
Elevator trim - Changing the incidence of the tail plane. Explain how this works …..
Much the same as a stabilator. The control moves the leading edge of the tail plane, this in turn requires less deflection and produces less parasite drag
What are aileron spades for ……
They greatly assist the physical effort required to pull on the controls at high speeds and high AoA in aerobatic aircraft
Name the 2 ways that aileron drag is reduced …..
- Frise ailerons
- Differential ailerons
