Modify verbs (pre or post)
Manner
Shows how a verb is being done
example: cheerfully, efficiently, painfully, etc
Time
Shows when a verb is being done
example: now, yesterday, soon, later, yet, etc
Place
Shows where a verb is being done
example: off, above, outside, etc
Frequency
Shows how often a verb is being done
example: always, sometimes, often, usually, etc.
Degree
Shows the extent to which the verb is being done and intensity of it
example: quite, too, very, etc.
Quantity
shows the amount that the verb is being done
example: almost, completely, especially, nearly, etc.
Evaluation
expresses the attitude of the writer about the information in the clause that follows
example: honestly, hopefully, carefully, carelessly
