Adult SOM's Flashcards
be comfortable with the general usage of each test and need to know cut offs
What is the gold standard test for static balance?
BERG
what does the BERG measure/test for? likw what kinda pts would need this
gold standard for static balance and assessing fall risk
- Does not include gait
assessment
- reaching, turning,
looking around
What does a BERG score of 21 mean? what is the cut off?
21 is a high fall risk. anything under a 45 indicates a fall risk.
What does the Functional Gait assessment (FGA) test for?
dynamic balance stability and mobility
while walking
What is the fall risk cut off score for the FGA?
<22/30 = risk of falls
Who is the FGA appropriate for??
stroke pts
(acute→chronic)
- community dwellers
- includes head turns, eyes
closed, backwards,
obstacles
What does the ABC measure?
Balance confidence (%)think of questionnaire you did with Wally
What is they fall risk cut off % for the ABC?
Less than or equal to 67%
What is the gold standard test for gait speed?
10 meter walk test
Who can the 10 meter walk test (10MWT) be administer to?
Fall risk pts
What does the 10mwt test for.
Predict community and household ambulation
What are the 4 cut offs for the 10MWT?
** startsat 0.4 and there are 4 categories**
Household ambulator: - <0.4 m/sec
Limited community ambulator- 0.4 - 0.8 m/sec
Community ambulator: - 0.8 - 1.2 m/sec (normal speed)
Able to safely cross streets: greater than 1.2 m/sec
What does the 6 minute walk test assess?
Walking endurance and aerobic capacity
What does the 5xSTS test assess?
Fall risk and LE strength predictor
What is the fall risk cut off for the 5xSTS test?
Greater than 15 seconds = fall risk
What does the 30 second sts test assess?
LE strength. No need to memorize values for this one
