Metabolic syndrome

A

-almost always have abdominal obesity

When have >3 (waist, tri, HDL, BP, fasting glucose)
Metabolic abnorm:
glucose
BP
lipids
low grade inflammatory state

Waist (abdominal obesity):
Men: >102 cm
Women:>88 cm

TG:>150 (dyslipidemia)
HDLC:
Men: 130/>85 (either or)
Fasting glucose: >100 pre-diabetes

A

Abdominal adiposity: independent predictor of risk for DM, HTN, CAD, and dyslipidemia
