Differentiate between a reaction and anaphylaxis.
Reactions typically have local or generalized swelling. Anaphylaxis is characterized by wheezing, airway compromise, and/or systolic BP of less than 90 mmHg
What are the signs and symptoms of these?
itching or hives, coughing, wheezing, distress, chest or throat constriction, difficulty swallowing, hypotension, edema
As the medic what should you do for all of these patients?
cardiac monitor and an IV
What should you do with pts who present with hives and rash ONLY?
administer benadryl
What should you do with pts who present with severe respiratory involvement?
administer Epinephrine and benadryl,
If pt. wheezing what should you do?
administer DuoNeb and apply nasocapnography
What other drugs can you administer if epi, benadryl, duoneb not efficient enough?
dexamethasone
What should your repeat breathing drug be?
Albuterol only repeat until waveform gets back to normal
What is your dose for Epinephrine?
.3mg IM of epinephrine 1:1000
What is your dose for Benadryl?
25 to 50 mg IV or IM
What are your dosages for the duoneb?
Atrovent 0.5mg and Albuterol 5mg via nebulizer
What is your dosage of Dexamethasone?
10 mg IV/IM
