in my opinion Adrienne Rich is one of the most interesting fascinating poets on the leaving certificate course and indeed our time. Rich uses a variety of striking themes which are just as relevant in today’s society at they were when the poem was originally written. from the selection of poetry i have studied the themes of suffering and survival, oppression of women, marriage and privilege are what appear most strongly with the ability to enthrall even the most disinterested reader. she expertly highlights each of these elements through her unrivalled use of vivid imagery, metaphor, alliteration and personification

as i have illustrated throughout my answer , Adrienne Rich was a highly talented and prolific poet , dealing with many issues still relevant in the world which i reside. as a result , i felt it was very easy to relate to her and so i have since been spurred on to read more of her poetry such as storm warnings. this was another intriguing poem, again dealing with one of her favourite themes namely, suffering and survival. because of this, it is safe to say i will be engaging in more of her poetry after the leaving cert
