What drug class is adrenaline
Sympathomimetic
Pharmacology of adrenaline
Naturally occurring catecholamine which acts on A1, B1, B2 receptions.
A1- Peripheral vasoconstriction
B1- Increase in HR and force on myocardial contraction = increase in irritability of the ventricles.
B2- bronchodilation
Presentation of adrenaline
1:1000 (1mg/1ml)
1:10,000 (1mg/10ml)
300microg epipen
150microg epipen
Indications for adrenaline
- Cardiac arrest
- Anaphylaxis / severe allergic reaction
- Severe-life threatening brochospasm/ silent chest.
- Shock unresponsive to adequate fluid resus.
- Croup.

Nil
Side effects for adrenaline
Anxiety Hypertension Palpitations/ tachyarrythmias Pupil dilation Tremor
Dosage of adrenaline
Cardiac arrest:
IV- 1mg every 3-5 mins, no max dose
Analphylaxis
IM- 300microg Epipen
IM- 500microgs, every 5 mins, no max dose
Severe life threatening bronchospasm/ silent chest:
IM- 500microg every 5 mins no max
Croup:
Neb- 5mg single dose only
