Presentation of Adrenaline?
1mg/1ml (1;1,000)
1mg/10ml (1:10,000)
Indications for Adrenaline?
Anaphylaxis/ Severe allergic reaction Severe life-threatening bronchospasm or silent chest bradycardia with poor perfusion Cardiac arrest Croup Shock unresponsive to adeq. fluid resus.
Contraindications of Adrenaline?
Nil
Adult Dosage for anaphylaxis (adrenaline)
IM- 500mcg every 5 minutes, no max dose
neb- 5mg single dose
Dosage for severe life-threatening bronchospasm or silent chest?
IM- 500microg, 5minute interval, no max dose
Adrenaline Precautions?
Hypertension
Hypovolaemic shock
Current MAOI therapy
Quetiapine therapy
Side effects of adrenaline?
Pupil Dilation
Tachycardia
Palpatations
Tremor
Drug Class of Adrenaline?
Sympathomimetic
Pharmacology of Adrenaline?
Naturally occurring catecholamine which acts on alpha and beta receptors (B1, B2 and A 1)
Metabolism of Adrenaline
By sympathetic nerve endings
Onset, duration, half life of adrenaline?
30-60 seconds, 5-10 minutes and 2 minutes
Considerations for adrenaline?
If time critical, administer IM in vastus lateralis
