Progression of hygiene skills (1-6yrs, 6 steps)
1yr-ish: helps wash/dry hands/face
2yr-ish: washes/dries hands I, helps wash during bath
3yr: wipes nose w/ prompt, brush teeth w/ S
4yr: uses soap to wash/dry hands I, brushes teeth I, bathes self w/ S
5yr: comb hair w/ A
6yr: comb hair I
Progression of dressing skills (0-6yrs, 7 steps)
0-1yr: cooperates with dressing
1-2yrs: undresses shoes, socks, unzips, doffs pants/coat
2-2.5yrs: undresses loose clothing I, dresses w/ A
3yrs: unbottons, dons shoes w/ verbal cues
4yrs: dons shoes/socks I, small buttons
5yrs: dresses I
6yrs: ties shoes
Progression of toilet skills (6 steps)
- Toilet schedule becomes regular
- Toilet training begins w/ increased bladder control
- Child needs prompts based on predictable toilet schedule
- Child develops sensory appreciation for urgency
- Child requests bathroom
- Similar schedule for BM, but typically occurs later.
Progression of chores (2-14yrs, 5 steps)
2-3yrs: clean up toys 5yrs: make bed, take out trash, dirty clothes in hamper 7-9yrs: prep simple cold meals 10-12yrs: prep simple hot meals 13-14yrs: laundry
Progression of food textures (0-36mos, 7 steps)
0-3mos: liquids (breast milk, formula)
3-6mos: thin liquids, puréed foods (baby cereal)
6-8mos: thicker puréed food
8-11mos: ground “junior” foods - lumpiness pronounced
12-18mos: soft table meat, soft fruits, cooked veggies (small pieces)
19-24mos: fruits & veggies w/ skin peeled
24-36mos: all textures
Progression of feeding skills (0-36mos, 7 steps)
0-3mos: bottle or breast fed
3-6mos: intro spoon feeding
6-8mos: teething biscuit, intro covered cup
8-11mos: holds own bottle, finger feeding - increase control of eating from spoon & drinking from covered cup
12-18mos: self-feeding preferred - toddler spoon, intro reg cup
19-24mos: self-feed w/ toddler fork, discontinue bottle @2yrs
24-36mos: self-feeding w/ good control of reg cup
