ADHD Workshop Part 2 Flashcards
What does dopamine do in the human brain ?
Plays an important role in:
Executive function Motor control Motivation Arousal Reinforcement Reward Thinking Movement Emotions Learning
What can a dysfunction of dopamine system do ?
Can lead to numerous disorders and diseases
What are the 4 dopamine pathways ?
Meso-limbic
Mesco-cortical
Nigrostraiatal
Tberonifundibular
What is the miso-limbic pathway?
meso=Midbrain. it is the area of the brainstem associated with vison, hearing, motor control, sleep and wakefulness, arousal and temperature regulation (VTA)
What is the meso-cortical pathway ?
An area of the brainstem associated with vision, hearing, motor control, sleep, wakefulness, arousal and temperature regulation (VTA)
What is the nigrostriatal pathway?
Transmits dopamine from the substantia nigra to the caudate and putamen (striatum)
Movement regulation
What is the tberonifundibular pathway ?
Hypothalamus to the pituitary gland
This medicates sectarian of the hormones Key role in prolactin release Eating Mating ovulation Nursing
Why does deficient signalling occur in an ADHD brain ?
There is an imbalance of NA and DA release. this causes ineffective information processing in two ways
What is the first line treatment of ADHD ?
Methylphenidate
What does methylphenidate do ?
Helps with focus and boosts attention
