Why do you want to be an Officer and not be a General Enlistee?
o As an officer you get to become the organisation’s leaders and managers
o More challenging and have to learn how to use instinct, reason and logic to quickly assess situations and respond accordingly no matter the complexity of the situation
o Learn to work as a team and command those under you
What is your understanding of the roles and responsibilities of leadership and management and how does this apply to the role of an Officer?
o Receive unrivalled management and leadership training in preparation for a demanding role leading and mentoring personnel, and demonstrating expertise in your specialty.
o As an officer you will be able to develop the fundamentals of being a leader; mentorship, influence, problem solving, decision making and so much more
What is your understanding of the Officer Selection Board (OSB)?
o The OSB is designed to asses your leadership skills, motivation and commitment to the Service for which you are applying.
o The function of the OSB is to provide advice to the delegate on the selection of applicants suitable for entry to the ADF, and subsequent commissioning
o The OSB consists of a series of activities designed to test your competitiveness for available vacancies
o Whilst good academic results are favourable, they are not the only factor when considering entry selections
o The OSB will also make a determination on your suitability based on your leadership skills, teamwork and individual abilities demonstrated throughout a range of challenging problem solving exercises
o The OSB will be conducted before a panel of Officers usually including:
President (Military Officer)
Specialist Officer (Military Officer)
Psychologist
