Q

How does polymerisation work?

A

lots of unsaturated alkenes can open their double bond and join together to form a polymer chain. This is called addition polymerisation

Q

How do you draw the repeating unit of a polymer?

A
  1. draw the two alkene carbons and replace the double bond with a single bond
  2. add an extra single bond to each of the carbons on either side
  3. fill the rest of the groups in the same way as they were arranged around the double bond
  4. add brackets and put an ‘n’ after it to show there are lots of them
