ADDITION OF POTASSIUM IODIDE. Flashcards
1
Q
no precipitate forms .
A
Al 3+ ion
2
Q
a bright yellow precipitate of lead(lI) iodide forms
A
pb 2+ ion
3
Q
note- why it turns yellow or doesn’t
A
If a solution was thought to contain either Pb 2+ or Al 3+ ions, the aqueous KI is used to
determine which ion is present. If Pb 2+ ions are actually present, a yellow precipitate will be seen. If no precipitate is formed, then Al
3+ ions are present.
