What is Addison’s disease?
adrenal cortex insufficiency
Results in diffuse hypermelanosis. Multiple circumscribed dark brown-black macules covered with intact mucosa.
Does lesions from Addison’s disease manifest in the oral cavity?
Any oral mucosa can be involved
What is the clinical appearance of Addison’s disease lesions?
Generalized brown pigmentation of sun exposed skin (bronzin of the skin)
Symptoms of Addison’s disease?
Anorexia
Nausea
Vomiting
Fatigue
Irritability
Depression
Weakness
Hypotension
What is typically the first indication of Addison’s disease?
Oral mucosal lesions
What is the tx for oral lesions from Addison’s disease?
No Tx necessary for oral lesions
Tx for Addison’s disease?
Corticosteroid replacement
