What is actinic lentigo?
Benign brown macule that results from chronic UV light damage to the skin
Does actinic lentigo occur in the mouth?
does not occur within the mouth
Where does actinic lentigo frequently occur?
Common on the dorsa of the hands, the face and arms of older whites
What population does actinic lentigo often manifest in?
People with freckles
How does an actinic lentigo lesion appear?
Usually multiple but individual lesions appear as uniformly pigmented brown to tan macules with well demarcated but irregular borders
Usually smaller than 5mm but up to 1cm
How does actinic lentigo lesion change in response to UV light?
NO CHANGE in color intensity after exposure to UV light unlike ephelis
Tx for actinic lentigo?
No tx necessary except for aesthetic reasons
When tx, use cryotherapy or laser therapy
There is a wide range of topical therapies available.
Is there malignant transformation in actinic lentigo?
NO
Recurrence in actinic lentigo?
Rare recurrence after removal. New lesions can arise in adjacent or distant skin at any time
