Secondary rescuer surf op
Equipped with tether Line or tethered surfboard depending on water conditions
Primary rescuer surf op
First member to approach victim
Not tethered
Tether Fire fighter surf ops .
Assist rescuers with donning equipment
Feeds and controls tether line
Pulls rescuers back to safety
Line rescue surf ops
Primary rescuer enters water walking backwards
Swims out to victim letting torpedo drag behind on the down sweep
Primary rescuer stops before reaching victim keeping torpedo between rescuer and victim victim ambulatory hand victim torpedo
If victim non- ambulatory than grab victim fro. Rear resting the victims back on the rescuers Chest and holds torpedo under victims armpits
Primary rescuer establishes buoyancy and awaits secondary rescuer with tether line
Line rescue surf secondary rescuer
Secondary rescuer renters water with tether line and harness and swims out to primary rescuer
Upon arrival at primary rescuer ,secondary rescuer removes harness and hands it to primary rescuer
Both rescuers hold victim under arm position with one hand and other hand holding g the harness.
Surfboard rescue
Procedures for primary rescuer remain same
Secondary rescuer enters water with tether line attached to surfboard and paddles to primary rescuer and victim
Both rescuers load victim onto surfboard and all pulled to shore by tether ff
Other considerations at surf rescue
Notify dispatcher once a victim is confirmed
All members entering water are to wear life perseveres
If surf board used MUST be tethered
Members pulling tether line must time waves when pulling Victim and rescuers to shore
Victim should be removed from waves before medical treatment include ovm spinal immobilization
If NYPD helicopter on scent IC or designee shall utilize TAC U channel
