add notes: Structures Flashcards
Systems
• A set of things working together as parts of a mechanism or an interconnecting network
• a functional unit comprising specific interconnection of functional subunits, which produce specific outputs for given inputs
- subunits are interrelated, interconnected elements
Variables
An element, feature or factor that is liable to vary or change
Causality
The principal or relationship between cause and effect
Structure
Architecture of a model
Feedback
The output feeds into the input which feeds back into the output (loop)
Equations
The process of equating one thing to another
Graphs
Visual representation of data
Model
An attempt to understand an aspect of an infinitely varied world by selecting from perceptions and past experience a set of general observations applicable to that problem
Mnemonic
A learning device that aids in information retention
MOAASPOSEUIR
Model Ordered Abstraction Assumption Selection Perception Observations Experiences Undertaking Infinity Reality
First order
The rate of change of a level is directly proportional to a level itself
Zero order
The rate of change of a level does not depend on the level, but is directly proportional to a constant
Model
An attempt to understand an aspect of an infinitely varied world via perceptions, past experiences and a set of observations to a given issue
Mathematical model
A representation of reality using mathematical concepts to describe (and make predictions about) the behaviour of a system and produces outcomes
Rate constant
- Gives info about how the level changes
- If k>1 : increasing; exponential growth
- If k<1 : decreasing; exponential decay
- proportionality factor that expressed the proportion of the level that changes with time
