adaptive immunity part 1 Flashcards
what do antigen presenting cells do in adaptive immunity
- capture microbe
- process it (chop it up into small pieces)
- send signal to T cell and instruct T cell to generate right immune response
what is a naïve T cell
T cells that have not previously encountered the antigen
what are the different types of antigen-presenting cells, where do they present the pathogen to and what are their functions
dendritic cells- present pathogen to naïve T cells- T cell response against most pathogens
langerhans cells -present pathogen to naïve T cells- T cell response against most pathogens
macrophages- present pathogen to effector T cells - phagocytic activities
B cells - present pathogen to effector T cells- antibody response
what are the features of antigen presenting cells
strategic location- mucosal membranes, skin , blood, lymph nodes, spleen
diversity in pathogen capture mechanisms- phagocytosis , macropinocytosis
diversity in pathogen sensors (PRRs)- can detect extracellular and intracellular pathogens
