adaptations, interdependence and competition Flashcards
what is habitat?
what is population?
what is community?
what is abiotic?
what is biotic?
what is an ecosystem?
habitat - the place organisms live.
population - how many organisms of one species live in a habitat.
community - the populations of different species in a habitat.
abiotic - non living factors of the environment.
biotic - living factors of the environment.
ecosystem - interaction of a biotic and non biotic community.
what resources do plants and animals compete for?
plants - light, space, water, nutrients.
animals - space, food, water, mates.
what is interdependence?
in a community species depend on other species for resources. (food, shelter, pollination)
what are 4 abiotic factors in an ecosystem?
temperature.
moisture level.
light intensity.
oxygen level.
what are 4 biotic factors in an ecosystem?
new predators.
competition.
new pathogens.
food availability.
what are adaptations?
features or characteristics that allow a species to live in different environmental conditions.
what are structural, behavioural and functional adaptations?
structural - body structure.
behavioural - how an organism behaves. (such as migration)
functional - things inside the body.
