What is ARDS and risk factors
Non cardiogenic pulm oedema and diffuse lung inflam- complication of critical illness
Defined by- Acute onsent, bilateral on xray, PaO2/FiO2 ratio high
NON CARDIOGENIC
RF is critical illness-
Sepsis, aspiration, trauma, pancreatitis, burns, smoke inhale, transfuse, etc
Presentation and ix of ARDS
Pretty much presents with acute resp failure in acutely unwell patient-
Low O2 sats, Tachypnea, dyspneoa
Pulm crepitations,
Want immediate XRAY and ABG
Xray- new onset bilateral opacities that isnt specific effuse/pneumonia (care can still be cardiac)
ABG— PaO2/FiO2 ratio >300 is criteria. T1 Resp failure
extra checks for cause ofc - like hidden sepsis, etc
Management of ARDS
Immediate ITU contact
