Acute Renal Failure Flashcards
Pre-renal failure is due to
conditions which decrease blood flow to the kidneys
Dec in blood - decrease in filtration
Decreased blood flow to the kidneys by…
Hypovolemia
Decreased CO
Decreased vascular resistance
Obstruction of renal vascular system
Intra-renal 3 main causes
- Acute Tubular Necrosis - Damage to the kidney tubules that reabsorb fluid/minerals as urine flows (hypoxic kidney - glomeruli break down)
- Nephrotoxic Agents (failure of glomeruli to filter)
- Diseases that damage
Post - renal failure
Obstruction of the urinary tract
5 Obstructions to the kidney
- Calculi
- Prostatic Hypertrophy
- Tumors
- Strictures (scarring that narrows the tube)
- Neurogenic bladder (lack of bladder control)
Renal Failure w/ K+
Hyperkalemia
Cannot excrete it
Renal Failure w/ Sodium
Hypoatremia
Spills through
Kidneys can’t retain sodium
Renal Failure w/ Phosphorus
Hyperphosphatemia
Kidneys can’t excrete it
Renal Failure w/ Calcium
Hypocalcemia
Renal Failure w/ Hydrogen
UPP
Metabolic acidosis
Renal Failure w/ Blood urea nitrogen and creatinine will..
Increase
Azotemia
Azotemia
Wastes in the blood
creatinine, urea
Decreased UO
Oliguric
How do you tx Oliguric
Diuretics
Hemodialysis
Non-Oliguric tx
Cautious volume replacement
