Who gets AML?
A
More common acute leukaemia in adults (60-80 years). Can be a primary disease or progression from a myeloproliferative disorder.

AML symptoms?
A
Fatigue, pallor, infections, easy bleeding, bruising, gum hypertrophy.

AML blood results?
A
Normocytic anaemia, neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, leucocytosis.
Blood film- blast cells and auer rods inside them

What is APL?
A
Acute proteomyeoltic leukaemia, caused by a t(15-17) translocation.
Emergency presentation- disseminated intravascular coagulation- too much clotting, paroxysmal bleeding.
Very treatable- Vit A analogue, trans retinoic acid and arsenic trioxide.
