What causes gout?
It is caused by the deposition of monosodium urate crystals which are formed due to an excess of uric acid from the breakdown of purine nucleotides
What are the risk factors of gout?
Taking loop and thiazide diuretics, obesity, hypertension, dyslipidaemia, alcohol intake and male gender
What are the key symptoms of gout?
Yellow and white bumps on skin due to a build up of crystals underneath, can damage joints (usually first metatarsal joint of big toe), extremely painful burning sensation and inflammation due to migration of white blood cells.
What is the first line treatment for gout?
NSAIDs
