Acute Inflammation: Mediators Flashcards
What are the mediators of acute IF?
cell derived and plasma derived mediators
What are the types of cell derived mediators? What is their role?
histamine and serotonin.
causes dilation and increased permeability of vessels
What are the types of plasma derived mediators?
Kinins, fibrin strands and complement cascade
What do plasma derived mediators exist as and how are they activated?
exist as precursors, activated by proteases
What is the role of kinins? 2
increase vessel permeability and stimulate pain receptors
What is the role of fibrin strands? 3
enable clotting, trap exudates and foreign bodies
What is the role of complement cascade? 3
cause vessel dilation, promotes leukocyte chemotaxis, enhances phagocytosis
