Obstruction in the bile ducts by gallstones

Management
NBM

Investigations
US first line to look for bile duct dilation and stones
CT scan
MRCP
Endoscopic US
ERCP
Required to remove stones blocking the bile duct
Down oesophagus, past stomach, to duodenum and into sphincter of Oddi
Procedures that can be done during ERCP
Cholangio-pancreatography to visualise system
Sphincterotomy (make cut to allow passage)
Stone removal
Balloon dilatation
Biliary stenting
Biopsy
