Discrete, Sharp, Temp, Precise, Dermatomal, Spino-thalamic
Waht are the sensation characteristics of Visceral NS?
General, midline, dull/achy/crampy, non-temp sensitive, non-localizing(regional/arterial), CN-X

When does somatic sensation apply?
DOES NOT APPLY UNTIL SPINAL NERVES ARE STIMULATED! Lateralizing
Very localizing (2point)
Specific (Sharp, Burning, etc)
Peritoneial Signs
What is the problem with people telling you they have the “flu”.
Too inspecific. Subjective interpretation.
Presentation of appendicitis?
Non-specific maiaise No appetite Min nausea, vomiting Periumbilical pain peritoneal pain response to jostling Chest breathing. Mcburney, rebound, psoas, -obturator Look at genitals
When is it ok to get rid of the patient’s pain?
Once you no longer need the pain, it is better to get rid of it.
What infections are very common in teens?
Strep and Mono
What can tell you that someone doesn’t need surgery?
Well between episodes of vomiting, etc.
Will tolerate eating food (use of their GI tract)
What isa sign that there isvascular GI disease?
Diminished pulse amplitudes
Whatwill happen if someone has ischemia in the GI and they eat?
Ischemic Pain
When do you need to excise bowel in ischemic disease?
Upon necrosis
What will the imaging finding of air in the small bowel tell you?
They have a small bowel obstruction.
What adverse effects can NSAIDS have on the kidneys?
Hypoperfusion.
