Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act 1988
Amended previous Disaster Relief law and created the system in place today by which a presidential declaration of an emergency triggers financial and physical assistance through Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
RLUIPA
Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act (2000)
Prevent “invidious discrimination against free exercise of religion by citizens vested with land use discretion or authority (or prison authorities). Land use regulations may not impose a substantial burden on religious assemblies
Morrill Act 1862
Allowed proceeds from the sale of public lands to be used to established land-grant colleges dedicated to “agriculture and the mechanic arts” with more than 100 existing today
Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000
Requires state and local governments to prepare and adapt multi-hazard mitigation plans approved by FEMA in exchange for eligibility to receive hazard mitigation grants from FEMA

Extended road system by 41,000 miles
Resulted in interstate highway system
Tenement House Act 1901
Cut lot coverage back to 70%
Required separate bathrooms for each floor as well as courtyards for light and ventilation, required window openings to open air for inhabitable rooms
Homestead Act 1862
Permitted new settlers in western lands to claim 160 acre parcels of public land on the condition that they reside on the land for 5 years
Coastal Zone Management Act
Provides for the management of the nations coastal resources including the Great Lakes
Federal Water Pollution Control Act
Adopted in 1948- Amendment 1972
Established structure for regulating pollutant discharges into waters of US
EPA authority to implement pollution control programs such as waster water standards for industry; made it unlawful for any person to discharge any pollutant from a point source to navigable waters; recognized critical need for planning
