Activity Based Teaching Strategies Flashcards
students from one class are arranged into small groups to facilitate learning process
Cooperative Learning
based on the premise that learners help each other work together and are responsible for not only their
learning but also for the learning of other group members
Cooperative Learning
involves structuring small groups of learners who work together toward shared learning
goals. This may be done through brainstorming activities, demonstrations and return demonstrations and
group projects
Cooperative Learning
actively influences students’ dispositions toward thinking and takes active participation in
learning
Writing-to-learn
serves as a stimulus of critical thinking by immersing students in the subject matter for cognitive
utilization of knowledge and effective internalization of values and beliefs.
Writing
Each student in a small group is assigned to one large task on the topic. The pieces are then put together by the group.
Jigsaw
A problem is posed, students have time to think about it individually, and then they work in pairs to solve the problem and share their ideas with the class.
Think-pair-share
Group members are assigned a number. The group discusses as one, and then the instructor calls one number. The person with that number answers for the group.
Numbered-heads together

Crystal Ball
Asks students to react to assigned readings. Students might write responses that analyze specified features of a reading or they might write counter-arguments. To extend these response papers, it can be combined into another assignment like a position paper.
Response Assignments
lends visual assistance to students when asked to demonstrate their thinking in a
graphic manner to show interconnectedness of concepts or ideas.
Concept Mapping
helps students see their own thinking and reasoning of a topic, to depict the relationship among factors, causes, and effects. Students become more adept at creating and examining a map for connections and using information
Concept Mapping
a strategy that fosters critical thinking which requires in depth recall of topics for supporting
evidence and for developing one’s position in a controversial issue.
