ACTIVITY 3 Flashcards
iatrogenic hazard or incident associated with medications
Medication misadventure
injury from a medicine (or lack of intended medicine) (ex. Overdose, underdose)
Adverse Drug Event (ADE)
any unexpected, unintended, undesired, or excessive response to a drug which necessitates an appropriate response.
Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR)
induced unintentionally by a physician or surgeon or by medical treatment or diagnostic procedures
Iatrogenic
preventable and has the potential to lead to inappropriate drug use or patient harm while it is still under the care of health professionals (iatrogenic)
Medication error
(an abnormal susceptibility to a drug that is peculiar to the individual)
Idiosyncratic reaction
expected, well-known reaction resulting in little to no change in patient management; predictable and dose-related (ex. drowsiness from some antihistamines)
Side effects
(an immunologic hypersensitivity,
occurring as the result of unusual sensitivity to a drug)
Allergic reaction
