Active Transport Flashcards
1
Q
Definition
A
The movement of substances from an area of low concentration to an area of high concentration against a concentration gradient
2
Q
What does it require?
A
ATP from respiration
Carrier proteins
3
Q
Steps of active transport
A
- ions move and attach to carrier proteins which fit into them
- Then the ATP lose a phosphate to move onto the Carrier protein and makes ATP into ADP
- this phosylation changes the shape of the carrier proteins tertiary structure and releases the ion on the opposite side against the concentration gradient
- Then the carrier protein returns to its original shape
