Active Transport Flashcards
endocytosis
substances move into cell by folding the cell membrane inwards then creating a vesicle. Used for a lot of solute or large molecules
exocytosis
opposite of endocytosis
vesicle goes to membrane and merges
it fuses with the membrane and releases the substance outside the cell
protein pumps
moves particles against the concentration gradient. requires energy. every pump is specific. uses ATP
sodium potassium pump
moves sodium OUT
potassium IN
against concentration gradient. Req ATP. Allows nerve cells to send messages and allows to homeostasis
phagocytosis
cellular eating
pinocytosis
cellular drinking
active transport
requires energy
moves molecules from low to high concentration
purpose: homeostasis
types: cytosis, endocytosis, exocytosis, protein pump
cytosis
is a transport mechanism for the movement of large quantities of molecules into and out of cells
