Active & Passive Immunity Flashcards
What kind of immunity is it when antibodies are passed from mother to child?
Passive natural immunity.
What kind of immunity is it when vaccines introduce the antibodies for a pathogen to provide immediate protection?
Passive artificial immunity.
What is active artificial immunity?
When vaccines introduce the antigens or a weakened strain of a pathogen to the immune system so it can produce the antibodies and memory T and B cells without the patient experiencing the symptoms of the disease.
What is passive natural immunity?
When antibodies are passed from mother to child during pregnancy or through breastfeeding (colostrum).
What is passive artificial immunity?
Vaccines introduce the antibodies for a particular antigen to provide immediate protection to the pathogen.
What kind of immunity is it when someone is exposed to a pathogen and the specific immune response produces antibodies and memory T and B cells for that pathogen?
Active natural immunity.
What kind of immunity is it when vaccines introduce the antigens or a weakened strain of a pathogen to the immune system to produce the antibodies and memory T and B cells?
Active artificial immunity.
What is active natural immunity?
When a specific immune response to foreign antigens provides a supply of antibodies and memory T cells and memory B cells for that specific pathogen.
What is the difference between active and passive immunities?
Active immunity is gained from exposure to a pathogen’s antigens and passive immunity is gained from the introduction of antibodies for a particular pathogen.
