What are the different types of repair and how many are there?

A

Self-initiated self repair in own turn (same turn repair). Overwhelming this is the most commonly used repair

Self-initiated at a TRP (transition space repair)

Other-initiated repair, by next turn repair initiation at next turn, of self-repair in the next turn after that (second turn repair). People do not like correcting other people and often just push people on to fix their own speech. Allows for self-correction

Self-initiated in third position in relation to the original turn (third position repair)

Other-initiated in fourth position relative to the original trouble (fourth position repair) (Schegloff; 1992)
