Act II Flashcards
Dawn: “At least three Sherlock Holmes-es….”
“Two Brother Cadfael’s….”
Regina: “….I’ll have you know that I have more talent in my little finger than that jumped-up tart has in her entire body! Cadbury’s Caramel Bunny indeed!”
“You tell ‘em, boss…”
Toadying, ingratiating
Regina: “Please do not call me that, dead boy: You know I dislike it…”
“Not as much as you hated Ms Kemp…”
Spiteful, resentful, or just put-out?
Regina: “Et tu, Jasper?
“Hey, I’m on your side, boss! You’ve got the eye, you know…you can spot talent like mine when people like Ms Kemp would just tell me to bugger off: You saw something in me….”
Toadying; ingratiating; resentful towards Anna Kemp - Say her name with disdain and venom?
REGINA: I really think you’re blowing the whole thing out of propor… what do you mean SHE had all the talent! I’ll have you know that I have more talent in my little finger than that jumped up tart had in her entire body! Cadbury’s Caramel Bunny indeed!
JASPER: ????
REGINA: Please do not call me that, dear boy; you know I dislike it…
JASPER: ????
REGINA: Et tu, Jasper?
JASPER: ????
GUS: Yeah, a payoff
JASPER: ????
DAWN: You tell ‘im Jazz!
JASPER: ????
GUS: This from a man who stood onstage this evening and confidently announced that Lord Somerville had been bludgeoned to death with a blunt excrement
JASPER: ????
GUS: You were cocking up; just like you have now
JASPER: ????
GUS: Well, if Anna was murdered you’ve just confessed to having a motive
JASPER: ????
GUS: Think about it, if Anna had her way and got rid of Regina, you wouldn’t have been far behind would you, “matey”
FRED: Problem is Gus, while he may have a credible motive, Jasper there barely has the mental capacity to tie his own shoe laces, much less commit a murder
JASPER: ????

JASPER: Hey I’m on your side, boss. You’ve got the eye, you know; you can spot talent like mine when people like Ms. Kemp would just tell me to bugger off. You saw something in me.
GUS: Yeah, a payoff
JASPER: Sour grapes, matey. So sad; just because I landed the best part, the one you wanted, and you couldn’t act your way out of a wet paper bag
DAWN: You tell ‘im Jazz!
JASPER: You’re just a talentless techie, matey! Me… I am an actor!
GUS: This from a man who stood onstage this evening and confidently announced that Lord Somerville had been bludgeoned to death with a blunt excrement
JASPER: I was paraphrasing
GUS: You were cocking up; just like you have now
JASPER: What are you talking about?
GUS: Well, if Anna was murdered you’ve just confessed to having a motive
JASPER: Don’t know what you’re talking about, matey
GUS: Think about it, if Anna had her way and got rid of Regina, you wouldn’t have been far behind would you, “matey”
FRED: Problem is Gus, while he may have a credible motive, Jasper there barely has the mental capacity to tie his own shoe laces, much less commit a murder
JASPER: You tell him Fred. Wait; what?
HANNAH: So if we can show she wasn’t poisoned; we know it was natural causes and we can stop all this pointless finger… pointing and everyone can calm down a bit; yes? Yes?
????
JENNIE: Did anyone see her have anything to eat or drink at the Arts Centre?
????
(A)
All: “Yeeees!”
JENNIE: Did anyone see her have anything to eat or drink at the Arts Centre?
ALL: General mumbles of no and/or shaking of heads
GUS: Or that they’d drink it before the wrong person copped it
SMITTY takes a third swig
JASPER: Yeah, but what if they didn’t care who they killed?
FRED: “Good idea; pass the bottle opener, someone…”
One by one, CAST begin to serve themselves with their own drinks
NB stay in earshot of Dawn, as she’s about to insult Hannah’s bringing non alcoholic beers for herself to drink
KATARINA: It is indeed my dear; to me. You see, dear Fred, regardless of how I do what I do, I am very, very good at what I do; which is how I uncovered your funny little secret. Oh you will laugh everyone when you hear what it is… You see everyone, dear Fred here… is none other than our local paper’s secret reviewer….

ALL: Sounds of outrage
The SAD actors advance on FRED; the CREW move in to defend FRED, with the INSPECTOR caught in the middle
INSPECTOR: Alright… Alright … ENOUGH! Everybody sit down! Now! Now I appreciate that these recent revelations have been upsetting… this is a difficult time for us all…. and… emotions are clearly running very high… but … but we must try to remain calm and deal with… the immediate situation

ALL: Angry noises
INSPECTOR: Thank you Mr Petrovsky… The Lambrusco is unlikely to have been poisoned in advance as Madame Wong, I mean Janice, would have noticed that the bottles had been opened and Mrs Pargeter is showing no signs of any ill effects from downing Ms Kemps glass; correct?
????
INSPECTOR: And If Mrs Pargeter were the intended victim any killer would have had to identify her glass and put the poison in it after the she had selected her glass at random from those on the bar; yes?
????
INSPECTOR: Now, was there any opportunity at any point between her selecting her glass and the moment that Ms Kemp mistakenly took it that this could have happened?
????
Then I think it is safe to say that we can be virtually certain that Ms Kemp’s death, while regrettable in the extreme, was from natural causes of some description
…
Yes?

They all look around at each other; except QUENTIN, WILHELMINA and SIMONE and shake their heads or say “No”
Then I think it is safe to say that we can be virtually certain that Ms Kemp’s death, while regrettable in the extreme, was from natural causes of some description
…
Yes?
ALL: Cheerfully/relieved Yes… Yes…Yes.
