Act 3, Scene 1 Flashcards
Tarheel 1: They’re swiss
Enter I don’t see him. I’ll get us a table.
Mads: I’ll get us some drinks.
Now Lilith, do you remember what we talked about?
L: be on my best behavior and don’t kill him.
That’s right.
L: But, what if I lure him off the island? Can I kill him then?
NO! No. This isn’t just about keeping a low profile. I actually like this guy and think he could be the one.
L: What about when he hurts you? Can I kill him then?
He’s not going to hurt me.
L: How can you be sure? Everyone else hurts you. What’s different about him?
Mads: She has a point you know. What is so different about Jeffrey?
Everything! He’s smart, he’s handsome, he’s rich, he’s funny. He gets my jokes and holds the door for me! I can feel his strong heart beating across the room. He even keeps night hours, just like me! He’s so…dreamy.
Mads: Sounds like the last guy - the one who turned out to be married and tried to slap you around. How’s his widow doing, by the way?
Oh, Maggie? I play her in bridge club. Turns out we have a lot in common!
Mads: Back to this Jerry guy, what do you really know about him?
You mean Jeffrey? He’s on break from Princeton. His family made a fortune and left it all to him. He could do anything, but he’s studying anatomy for all the right reasons - he wants to help people.
Mads: A college boy? They’re so inexperienced. Aren’t you worried that he’s too young for you?
L: Aren’t they all?
He’s mature for his years. He volunteers at the animal shelter and cares for the homeless.
Mads: While he’s working on his sainthood, he still has time to date? Maybe he is different than the others…
Oh, yes! I volunteered with him, and it’s amazing how many people know jeffrey and look up to him.
Mads: Well if he’s so great, where is he?
He’s probably running late. Okay, that is the only thing. He’s not always punctual.
Jef: I’m sorry i’m late. my last delivery with Meals on Wheels was to a rather lonely old woman. I think she needed the company as much as the sandwhich.
That’s so sweet! You’re always looking out for people.
Jef: Oh my, is it really that late? I’m afraid I can’t stay.
What do you mean?
I’m so sorry, dear, but I have to wake up early tomorrow. I told Mrs. Humphries i’d go into Manteo to pick up her Haldol. I’m afraid i’ll be gone all day tomorrow.
Oh, that’s alright, dear. Do you think you’ll be available by tomorrow evening?
Jef: I should think so. Why?
Well, I was just thinking, since you’ve already met my sisters, maybe you could come to our house for dinner and meet my father as well. I can’t wait for you to see Scuppernong House.
