Present moment awareness:
Values
Committed actions
Self as context
Cognitive Diffusion
Acceptance
Dominance of the past & future
Lack of values
Inaction / lack of direction
Self as content
Cognitive Fusion
Experiental avoidance
Describe these ACT processes of change
Committed actions vs Inaction
Self as context vs Self as content
Comitted actions vs Inactions
= Behaviours are , or are not in line with values, following through with things, having achievable goals
Self as context/content = I am not my thoughts, taking perspectives not being stuck on the conceptualized self
What is pyshcological inflexibility and flexibility
Inflex = Continuing to do something that is not working for us
Psychological flexibility = Ability to contact the present moment in consciousness and to change or persist in behaviour that serves valued ends
What is the philosophy underlying ACT and describe
Functional Contextualism = we are interested in the function of things, not whethre these are “true” -> how WELL is this behaviour working FOR THIS PERSON? Not what is the behaviour
Cognitive Theory underlying ACT and describe
Relational frame theory
= As humans we have a unique ability to relate things to things indefinitely. This is highly helpful for our cognitive capacitis but can create suffering too.
