Act 1, Scene 7 Flashcards
Macbeth is anxious and wants what needs to be done to be over
If it were done, when ‘tis done, then ‘twere well it were done quickly
This short quote shows how Macbeth is fearful of retribution
Even-handed justice
Macbeth is guilty and hesitant of having to betray Duncan’s trust so he can pursue the prophecies
He’s here in double trust: First, as I am his kinsman and his subject …. then, as his host
Macbeth highlights how noble Duncan is as a king
Besides, this Duncan hath borne his faculties so meek, hath been so clear in his great office
Macbeth states that the only thing fueling his desire is vaulting ambition
I have no spur to prick the sides of my intent, but only vaulting ambition, which o’erleaps itself and falls on the other
Macbeth decides to no longer pursue his ambition through murder
We will proceed no further in this business
Lady Macbeth belittles Macbeth about cowering out
Art thou afeard to be the same in thine own act and valour as thou art in desire?
Lady Macbeth pressures her husband and attacks his man hood
When you durst do it, then you were a man
Lady Macbeth shows her cruel nature about never breaking a promise
I would while it was smiling in my face ….. and dashed the brains out, had I so sworn as you have done to this
Macbeth decides he will commit the acts and highlights his deceptive nature
I am settled ….. false faces must hide what the false heart doth know
