PCBRAS- Phenytoin, carbamazepine, barbiturates, rifampicin, alcohol (chronic), sulphonylureas
enzyme inhibitors
AODEVICES- allopurinol, omeprazole, disulfiram, erythromycin, valproate, isoniazid, cipro, ethanol (acute), sulphonamides
drugs to stop during surgery
I LACK OP- insulin, lithium (day before), anticoags and antiplatelets, COCP/ HRT (4w), K sparing diuretics (day of) , oral hypoglycaemics, perindopril and other ACEi
steroid side effects
STEROIDS- stomach ulcers, thin skin, edema, R&L heart failure, osteoporosis, infection, diabetes, cushing syndrome
NSAIDs side effects
NSAIDs- no urine (renal failure), systolic failure (heart failure), asthma, indigestion, dyscrasia
causes hypokalaemia
DIRE- drugs (thiazide and loop diuretics), inadequate intake/intestinal loss, Renal tubular acidosis, endo (cushings, conns)
causes hyperkalaemia
DREAD- drugs (k sparing and ACEi), Renal failure, Endo (addisons), artefact (clotted sample), DKA
