DEFINTION: an acquired communication disorder caused by brain damage

Ischemic Stroke (a clot blocking blood flow to an area of the brain)
Hemorrhagic stroke (bleeding occurs inside or around brain tissue) MORE DANGEROUS
What will happen if the R-hemisphere is damaged?

What causes a TBI?
Insult to the brain by penetrating or closed injury
Caused by external or physical force
What happends to the person’s LOC?

A TBI produces diminished or altered state ofconsciousness
Can result in cognition impairments, physical deficts, emotional/behavioral disturbances
What are the cognitve deficits that occur with a TBI?
Orientation, memory, judgment/reasoning, language
What are the emotional//behavioral/psychological deficits that occur with a TBI?
Agitation
Irritability
Impulsivity
Apathy
Disinhibition
Decreased frustration tolerance
Egocentricity
Depression
Reduced insight/awareness
