what is reporting bias?
selective revealing or suppression of information by subjects (about past medical history)
what is risk?
the probability of suffering harm or loss; the proportion of participants experiencing the event of interest in a given time period
what is harm?
physical/psychological injury or damage
what is benefit?
something that promotes or enhances well being
what is screening?
testing for a disease or condition in a population with no symptoms
what is sensitivity?
of the people who have the disease, what percent test positive for having it.
how well the test finds the condition or disease when it is present
What is specificity?
of the people who DON’T have the disease what percent test negative.
correctly excluding the disease when there is no disease present
what are false positives?
atypical imaging that requires additional testing
finding a disease that ISNT there
what are false negatives
not finding a disease that IS there
what does validity mean?
accurate
what does reliability mean?
repeatable
what are expectations for screening tests?
non-painful/dangerous, if it is positive, there should be a treatment
what is a search strategy?
a structured organization of terms used to search a database. The search strategy shows how these terms combine in order to retrieve the best results
what is a systematic review?
a research study that collects and looks at multiple studies
what is a meta-analysis?
a statistical analysis that combines the results of multiple scientific studies.
