What is the management of acne vulgaris?
1st line treatment: Topical benzoyl peroxide or azelaic acid
2nd line treatment: Oral antibiotics (such as tetracyclines) or oral anti androgens (in females) such as OCP and spironolactone
3rd line treatment: Oral retinoids
Who is at risk of acne rosacea?
A female with pale skin at an age between 30 - 60 years of age.
What is the management of acne rosacea?
1st line: Topical metronizadole
2nd line: Topical azelaic acid
3rd line: Oral tetracyclines
What are the complications of acne rosacea?
Rhinophyma, ocular involvement (e.g blepharitis, conjuctivitis, keratitis)
Insulin like growth factor 1 can be elevated in which acneiform lesion?
Acne vulgaris is insulin like growth factor 1 mediated disease. Milk products, hyperglycaemia, smoking can all lead to increased insulin like growth factor 1.
