Mild acne
topical antibacterials (benzoyl peroxide)
ineffective?
add topical antibiotics (clindamycin/erythromycin)
Moderate acne:
add topical vitamin A derivatives such as tretinoin adapalene, or tazarotene
Moderate acne, unresponsive to first line Tx
use oral antibiotics such as minocycline or doxycycline.
Severe acne:
Add oral vitamin A, isotretinoin
Perioral Dermatitis
need a hint? avoid:\_\_\_\_\_ • topical • systemic • alternative
Perioral Dermatitis
avoid all topical steroids
• topical: metronidazole 0.75% gel or 0.75-1% cream to affected area bid
• systemic: tetracycline family antibiotic (utilized for its anti-inflammatory properties)
• occasional use of a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory cream (i.e. tacrolimus or pimecrolimus)
